Italy Part 1 - Cinque Terre

Well, I'm back home in Olympia after a whirlwind two week trip throughout Italy. I went with Meredith, a girl from my IES program in Salamanca. We saved the sightseeing locations for later and started in the tiny, picturesque Cinque Terre. It's a group of five little coastal villages connected by hiking trails! Gorgeous scenery, crystal clear water, amazing food - all in all an amazing introduction to Italy!
Vernazza, one of the villages (as seen from the hiking trail)
We stayed in the southernmost town, Riomaggiore...

We had close to perfect weather, so we spent lots of time on the rocks along the coast (minor disaster when I slipped and fell in...) basking in the sun and dipping our feet in the water.

the perfect spot!
Since we were on a budget, we stayed in a rather grungy hostel and ate all our food from markets or to-go restaurants. We stumbled upon the most amazing focaccia and pasta place right by our hostel! We literally went there for every lunch and dinner, and then we'd take our delicious food out to the rocks (waterfront dining!). We got to know the chef pretty well, ha ha. She liked our attempts to speak Italian.
focaccia!!
We hiked between the villages for some of the most amazing views I've ever seen

Next: Florence!
